OUR STORY: BUILT WITH PURPOSE

JAAMA started from a very personal place. When I began wearing the hijab, I realized there were very few options beyond fast fashion, and finding brands that aligned with my values was difficult. As someone who gravitates toward darker tones, I still wanted hijabs and niqabs that could elevate different looks. Something that could add a pop of color when I wanted it, while still keeping my go-to staples. At JAAMA, we’ve created color options for everyone.
At its core, JAAMA is about intention. How something is made, who makes it, and the story it carries. Every piece is handcrafted by skilled artisans in The Gambia, using tie and dye techniques rooted in care, patience, and tradition. We work closely with these artisans to create pieces that are not only beautiful but also meaningful. Everything is grounded in craftsmanship rather than mass production.
Giving back is also a key part of who we are. A percentage of our profits will be reinvested in supporting communities in The Gambia, ensuring that the people and places behind JAAMA continue to grow and thrive alongside us. Be sure to enter your email on our website, which will add you to our newsletter where I’ll be sharing updates, In Sha Allah. This includes photos or videos when possible, so you can see exactly where your support is going.
JAAMA is not a fast fashion brand. We work with local artisans who set fair prices for their craft, while also accounting for the people behind the scenes and international shipping. We prioritize enduring quality over fast fashion. Every JAAMA piece is crafted to maintain its feel, structure, and elegance through repeated wear. It becomes something you reach for often, style effortlessly, and rely on for years to come.
What started with Pinterest inspiration boards and sketches in a New York City apartment grew into something much bigger. I connected with multiple artisans before carefully narrowing down to a select few. I sourced different types of materials and reviewed samples, then scouted a tailor who has perfected their craft and has extensive experience in creating modest wear. All of this was done to ensure you are getting the very best we can offer. This is how JAAMA got here.
Another challenge I face is finding modest wear that is stylish, affordable and accessible. JAAMA was created to be part of that solution. This is just the beginning. Our goal is to expand into modest wear, In Sha Allah, and continue building pieces that truly serve our community.
